What takeaways are doing to your waistline and your wallet

takeaway-1euro-per-day

We can all agree it’s hard to be organised ALL of the time, sometimes it’s good to just go with the flow and see what the day brings and that can even go with what to have for dinner.  Every now and then there’s nothing like coming home from a long day at work and just lifting the phone and ordering dinner to be delivered to your door, or pulling into a Drive-Thru and getting that meal ‘to go’. Not every ‘fast food’ option is unhealthy although there are many that are.  What you choose and how big your portion is will define not only your waist but your wallet!  But, if you are someone who regularly orders a takeaway dinner, even just once a week…what if I told you by cutting down on one single portion you could become a much healthier and fitter person with a smaller waist and fatter wallet???… more on that soon…

If you are not the type to study the menu for the ‘healthy option’ and calorie intake of your favourite fast food meal, maybe you should just take the time to see exactly what that burger and fries or the sweet and sour chicken with fried rice adds up to… both in fat and cost.  Did you know that a McDonald’s Big Mac and medium fries will set you back 920 calories and 48 grams of fat, 12.5 of which are saturated fat.  Now it’s recommended that a person who consumes an average of 2,000 calories a day should eat no more than 65 grams of fat daily and 15 of those grams or less should be from saturated fat, the worst kind of artery-clogging fat.  So, even at a generous 2,000 calories daily — if you’re trying to lose weight you’d be consuming less…your Big Mac and medium fries just cost you almost half a day’s calories and three-quarters of the fat you ought to be consuming. You also just chowed down 83 % of your saturated fat allowance in one single sitting.  Scary right? and we didn’t even mention the milkshake??!!  Not to mention that the cost of one of these ‘Meal Deals’ are an average of €8.00.  As for Chinese dishes, an average portion of egg fried rice contains 727 calories. A TYPICAL Chinese takeaway meal of vegetable spring rolls, sweet and sour chicken and a portion of egg fried rice clocks up a whopping 2,184 calories …. More calories than an average adult should consume in an entire day.

So what’s that you said about making my waist slimmer and wallet fatter I hear you ask??  Well if you were to cut down on just one portion of your takeaway per week, be it the sly Big Mac meal costing you around €8.00 or the portion of Sweet and Sour averaging €9.00/€11.00 without the extras…. You could buy a whole year of gym membership here at Ozone and have change in your pocket.  From as little as €1.00 per day you could change the way you look, feel and think about your body and how you wish to fuel it!
