5 simple food rules to get and keep the weight off

Follow these 5 simple food rules if you’re serious about losing weight!!

There are many guidelines to encourage you to lose weight and some that can even be tweaked a little to suit the individual, but if you’re serious about slimming down then here are five food rules you really must adhere to if you want to see a significant change on the scales:

 

Never Skip Breakfast

Meals should never be skipped but if you have to miss out, DON’T let it be breakfast.  Enjoying a hearty and nutritious meal in the morning actually jump starts your metabolism which encourages the pounds to drop.  Choosing a high protein breakfast will not only fill you with energy but will also keep you satisfied for hours!  Try porridge with fruit, avocado and eggs or protein pancakes to name a few!!  Protein supports muscle tissue so try to eat more lean meat, chicken, fish or protein high vegetables throughout the day.

Cut Calories

To lose fat, you have to gradually decrease your calories by eating less and cutting out calorific meals and snacks.  Its simple math, to lose 1lb in weight per week you must decrease your calories by 500 per day.  This can be burned through exercise or simply cutting down on food intake but it is highly recommended a combination of both in order to sustain a healthy lifestyle.

Choose the right carbohydrates

In order to create the right environment for fat loss, you need to gradually decrease your intake of carbohydrates. This means, eat less sugar and starches, such as processed grains. Eating too much of these foods can wreak havoc on your bloodstream, increasing hormones that lead to fat gain.  Good sources of carbs include quinoa, barley, wholewheat etc

Veg out, every meal

No I’m afriad I don’t mean lie on the sofa and watch TV!! To ensure you’re being healthy throughout the weightloss process, you need to gradually increase the amount of veggies you eat. Try starting to replace your grains with greens. If you do this, you’ll be getting more fibre, vitamins and minerals.  Greens are always the best, Spinach, kale, broccoli … the list goes on!

Boost your metabolism

To support your metabolism, gradually replace bad fats with healthy fats. Adding things like olive oil, avocados, nuts, seeds and fish oils to your diet will help speed up your metabolism and lose weight.
